Densify Nordvest
The site of the project is located in Nordvest – the ex-industrial district of Copenhagen, undergoing the process of densification and known for its variety of functions, styles and scales. The main idea of the project is to add the new structure upon the old one and create the necessary density without erasing the existing. The new building is a volume, hovering upon the previous laundry – factory. The extension houses public functions: a lecture hall with educational spaces, work and social areas.
Building concept emerges from a wish to celebrate the given context. The new volume reflects the historical industrial section: the sloping roof becomes inclined / stepping floor. In this way, the existing building is treated as the landscape of the new one.
