Europan’13

The project creates a vision for Strandveikaia: a unique residential development on the northeast side of Nyhavna, Trondheim. The aim of this project is to preserve and reuse historical harbour setting as well as democratise the waterfront. The project envisions an urban in-fill that facilitates residents with a wide range of activities. The process begins by creating a continuous blue-green public loop, which spans around the waterfront. As a part of the loop, a green public spine is used to bond existing historical structures with the new ones. Building plots are shaped to ensure liveable public space, visual connections towards the water and desirable microclimate. The central public space becomes a core of urban lifestyle, where sharing, coexisting and interacting is a part of everyday life.
